Time & Bill is an independent time-tracking product built and operated by Grobmeier Solutions GmbH in Germany. There is no anonymous product team behind it. There is me.

I am a senior independent consultant, software builder, Java Champion, and TÜV-certified GDPR Data Protection Officer. I have worked in software for more than two decades and contributed to the Apache Software Foundation since 2009.

Why I brought Time & Bill back

I first built Time & Bill because I needed a practical way to record project work. Other people found it useful too, but the original model was not sustainable. Most accounts were free, infrastructure still cost money, and eventually I shut the service down in 2023.

That experience changed how I run it today. Time & Bill is paid, deliberately small, and built for freelancers and teams of up to 20. I would rather operate a useful product responsibly for years than chase growth for its own sake.

What direct operation means

I design and maintain the product, make the technical decisions, and remain accountable for how it is operated. Support does not disappear into a large organization. When you contact Time & Bill, you reach the company and ultimately the person responsible for the software.

My work in Open Source, security, privacy, and long-lived software shapes the product. Application data is hosted in Germany, the important service providers are published, and the limitations are described in plain language. That does not make any cloud service risk-free. It means you should be able to understand the arrangement before trusting it with your work.

I use AI tools in software development, testing, research, and review. They support the work, but they do not conduct customer relationships or pretend to be me. Emails and personal conversations are with a real person.

Time & Bill is the hosted product for shared projects and reports. I also maintain HumbleBee, a local-first open-source time tracker for people who would rather keep their data on their own computer.
